What is the appropriate dosage?

There is no universal B12 dosage or schedule appropriate for every patient. Your provider determines the dosage, concentration, frequency and route based on your medical information and the specific pharmacy formulation. Follow your prescription label exactly.

My B12 arrived as a powder with a separate vial. What should I do?

Do not mix or inject the medication until you have reviewed the exact written instructions from the dispensing pharmacy. The amount and type of diluent can vary by vial strength and formulation.

Never automatically add 10 mL or another predetermined amount. If the pharmacy’s instructions are missing or unclear, contact the dispensing pharmacist before preparing the medication.

Why does my urine look pink or red after an injection?

Vitamin B12 formulations are naturally red, and some B12 can be eliminated through urine. However, pink or red urine can also have other causes, including blood in the urine. Contact your provider or pharmacist if the color is unexpected, persistent or accompanied by pain, difficulty urinating, clots, weakness or other symptoms.
